AN  APOLOGY TO THE ETHIOPIAN SCIENTIST

Please accept my apology on behalf of  the Ethiopian-American Forum. As you are very well aware, I was in Ethiopia in July, 2008. During my trip to Ethiopia, I submitted questions to the Office of Prime Minister Meles Zenawi (www.ethiopianamericanforum.com Questions to Prime Minister Meles No. 7)

With regards to the discussion I had with you, my understanding was that you have been ready to provide vaccination services for humans and livestock in Ethiopia, free of charge. In that regard, you volunteered to produce 14 different vaccines. However, you were concerned whether you can get the necessary cooperation from the Ethiopian Government in a timely manner given the time constraint you have.

Your enthusiasm and level of active participation in foot and mouth disease, and years of dedicated work and the recognition given to you recently by the U.S. Government, is very much appreciated and admired by the Ethioipian-American Forum.

We would like to inform you that we have made repeated requests to the Ethiopian Government in order to address your concern. However, we have not heard anything from the Ethiopian Government to this day. We also understand the gravity of the situation once such disease begin to spread inside Ethiopia as it has done in the West African countries.

Lastly, we appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter. Please, keep up the good work, since Ethiopia needs dedicated people like you.

Sincerely,

Yared Bekele Mekonnen
Vice Chairman, Ethiopian-American Forum
